Wakanda is a fictional African country in the Marvel comics and hit movie “Black Panther”, masquerading as an impoverished, developing country. Behind this facade, it is the most technologically advanced nation in the world: a self-sufficient confluence of various sub-Saharan cultures. In the MCU, this unassuming powerhouse is located in Central East Africa, near Lake Turkana. In the real world, this region is one of the poorest on the continent. The dream of Afrofuturism, however, is alive and well on the shore of Lake Turkana.
